Two Big Island runners took third place in their divisions at the Honolulu Marathon/ HHSAA Cross Country State Championships on Oct. 29 at Island School on Kauai.
In the boys division, Levi Childers of Kealakehe finished third with a time of 16:46.12, 17 seconds behind Keane Palmer of Iolani, who edged Yuta Cole of Kalani. Shane Tominaga of Waiakea finished fifth in 16:50.54, Cameron Cornforth of Kealakehe finished 15th in 17:15.49 and Austin Mohica of Waiakea finished 20th in 17:26.34
And in the girls division, Kekaihulali Halpern of Waiakea finished third in 19:29.22, almost 22 seconds behind the winner, Zola O’Donnell of Mililani, who finished more than 13 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Isabella Ford of Punahou. Cozette Wood of Kealakehe finished 11th in 20:07.85, and Shanay Ha‘a of Waiakea finished 18thin 20:35.69.
Iolani took the Division I boys team title, with Kealakehe finishing third, Waiakea eighth and Hilo 14th.
Punahou won the Division I girls team title, with Hilo finishing 8th, Kealakehe 10th and Waiakea 11th.
Hawaii Baptist took the Division II boys team title, with Hawaii Preparatory Academy fifth and Makua Lani seventh.
The girls Division II team title also went to Hawaii Baptist, with HPA the runners-up and Kamehameha-Hawaii fifth.
